  • House Bill 3 amended section 45.003 to require school districts to include the following statement in bond propositions on the ballot: “THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE ”. The ballot must include the statement. It is mandatory without exception.

We understand this can be confusing to voters on the ballot, but the district has no intention of raising the tax rate as part of this bond election. This language was also included in our last few bond elections, but we did not raise the tax rate.

  • Bond funds are dedicated to long-term facility improvements and cannot be used for salaries or daily operating expenses.

  • Our financial advisors have ran all of the numbers with our current values and we can afford this bond without changing the tax rate. Please keep in mind that the tax rate is separate from your taxable values and we do not set values of your property.

A state law requires Texas school districts to include the statement, “This is a property tax increase,” on every ballot proposition. That is true even if the proposition does not increase the tax rate. I

  • District leaders and staff members have worked diligently over the past several months to examine safety concerns, outdated equipment, and long-term facility needs in our district.

  • Any registered voter who resides within our school district boundaries is eligible to vote. Registered voters may cast their ballot at the Lamar County polling location.

  • No difference in tax rates for anyone over the age of 65. Make sure you have a Homestead exemption and Over-65 Exemption on file with the appraisal district.

  • Lamar county property values have grown due to increase in overall value and in new growth and businesses. The portion of the tax rate that pays into our I&S (debt) can only be spent for debt and not on operating cost like salaries. For a short amount of time we can take out loans that will be covered by our current tax rate.
